Saturday August 30, 2008 - SJAD provides ALS crew
for standby at benefit mud run in Newburg, Missouri.
On August 30th, 2008 St. James Ambulance provided an ALC crew for
standby at the Newburg mud run. The mud run is put-on by the Newburg
Community Revitalization Program Group, (NCRPG).
While on standby employees provided first aid and rehab to the spectators
and participants of the mud run. They were also there to provide care in
case a life threatening injury or illness would occur
All proceeds from the mud run will go towards building a park within the
city of Newburg. Plans for the park include a walking trail, fishing docks
with handicap access, a boat ramp, designated spots for camping, and a
track for the Newburg Schools.
The NCRPG consist of a group of citizens from the Newburg area that is
working diligently to revitalize the city of Newburg. Currently, they have
many projects in place besides building a new city park. The NCRPG is
always looking for volunteers to help within the organization.

Saturday August 30, 2008 - SJAD responds to
Lafayette, Louisiana to assist with Hurricane Gustav
On Saturday August 30, 2008 St. James Ambulance was contacted by the
State of Louisiana and asked to respond to Lafayette, Louisiana with an
EMS crew to assist in the evacuation of local area hospitals.
This was done in preparation for Hurricane Gustav which was slated to hit
the area on Monday September 1, 2008.
St. James Ambulance immediately deployed a fully equipped ambulance
staffed with one EMT and one Paramedic. Once the crew arrived in
Lafayette they immediately reported to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital and
started transporting and evacuating patients to Monroe, Louisiana which is
located about three hours north of Lafayette.
The crew from St. James continued to assist with the evacuation of
patients from the hospital until the early morning of September 1, 2008.
Once Hurricane Gustav finally made landfall and it was determined that all
patients was safely evacuated, the crew from St. James Ambulance was
released and returned home late Monday evening.
St. James Ambulance is honored and privileged to assist during this time of
need. When a disaster hits the United States, whether it be natural or man
made, St. James Ambulance is the first EMS Unit to be notified in the Troop
I Region.





St. James Ambulance Participates in St. James &
Rolla Stages of the Tour of Missouri.
On Thursday September 11, 2008 and Friday September 12, 2008 St. James
Ambulance participated in different events for stage 4&5 of the Tour of
Missouri.
The 2008 Tour of Missouri is the second annual edition of a professional
road bicycle racing stage race held in Missouri. It began on September 8,
2008 with seven days of racing.
Stage 4: For Stage 4 of the race participants in the Tour of Missouri started
in Lebanon and ended in Rolla with the bike riders traveling 105 miles.
SJAD assisted Phelps County EMS and outfitted two Cub Cadets with all
essential medical equipment needed in an emergency. SJAD used the Cub
Cadets as "Mobile Units" to safely and efficiently maneuver through the
crowd.
Stage 5: This stage of the race found the riders starting in St. James and
finishing in Jefferson City for a total of 100 miles traveled. SJAD was
responsible for setting up a first aid tent on Jefferson Street as well as
utilizing the "Mobile Units" that was used during Stage 4. We were also
honored to be asked to provide an Ambulance to follow the riders to
Jefferson City, Unit 2227 with four crew members provided the needed
assistance to the riders.

St. James Ambulance Host its First Annual Awards
Banquet
On October 24th, 2008 SJAD held its first annual Awards Banquet at Matt's
Steakhouse. The awards banquet was put on by the Board of Directors to
honor the employees of the Ambulance District as well as past and present
board members.
During the ceremonies the employees and current Board of Directors
honored Greg Campbell. Greg served on the Board of Directors for 13
years with the last 5 years serving as President.
Also honored this evening was Kyle Johnson as EMT of the Year, Bryan
Lambeth as Paramedic of the Year, and Brenda Mitchell as Employee of the
Year.
Current Board President Aaron Hunter and Vice President Jesse Singleton
presented Linda Hanrahan, our Ambulance Administrator with an award of
appreciation for her continued dedication and service to our community.
Finally, the evening ended with the employees and Board of Directors
dedicating the flag pole outside of the ambulance base to the men and
women who lost their lives during the attacks on September 11, 2001.
Getting the flag pole erected and dedicated was a process six years in the
making and it is our honor to finally get this accomplished.
