Emergency Medical Technician - Basic
Job Description
Duties:

Under the general supervision of the manager, the EMT-Basic is responsible for the following:

  • Providing Basic Life Support (BLS) care for patients within the policies and protocols of St. James Ambulance District and within the scope of
    their licensure, regardless of whether the incident is routine or emergency in nature.



  • Providing assistance to the EMT-Paramedic during their performance of Advanced Life Support care while staying within their own scope of
    practice.



  • Accurate and complete documentation of ALL patient contacts. Procuring patient information necessary for billing and administration.



  • Safeguarding patient confidentiality in accordance to all applicable laws.



  • Inspecting Ambulances at the beginning of each shift to ensure safe operating condition and the presence of appropriate supplies.



  • Completion of daily chores such as washing ambulances, cleaning areas of the base, and any other chores that may be assigned by
    management.



  • Intrafacility patient transfers as assigned by management.



  • Any other duties as assigned by member(s) of management.



Requirements:

  • Education:    High School graduate or equivalent. Graduate of approved EMT-Basic course

  • Experience:  One year as an EMT-B is preferred but not required

  • Licensure:    Must posses a current Missouri EMT-B license. Must Posses a Valid Missouri drivers license

  • Certification: Must be certified in Basic Life Support. Basic Trauma Life Support is preferred but not required


Mental:        

  • Ability to concentrate and perform duties under difficult and sometimes extreme circumstances


Physical:      

  • Should be able to lift a minimum of 100 pounds

  • Should be able to stand, sit, twist, turn, carry, push, pull, crouch, bend, and reach without difficulty



Working Conditions:

  • Working in the medical field you may experience frequent exposure to communicable disease via blood, body fluids, needles and bio-hazard
    materials. You may also be exposed to radiation, anti-neoplastic agents and hostile persons.
